The work
You write prompts in Arabic that only someone with your training could write — questions rooted in real synthesis routes, assay design, strain handling, isotope chemistry, or radiation measurement — and then judge what the model gives back. Judgment runs on two axes at once: is the science correct and genuinely useful, and does the response handle dual-use content responsibly? A model that refuses a routine undergraduate question is failing; a model that walks a user through a hazardous procedure is failing differently. Much of the day is annotation against a written rubric, plus classification of prompts and conversations into structured categories, with guideline updates arriving as the project evolves.
What the screen actually looks for
- Verifiable PhD depth in one subfield. The screen pushes on specifics — reagents, instrumentation, controls, failure modes — rather than survey-level breadth. Radiological and nuclear coverage from a chemistry background counts: radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, energetic materials, radiation physics.
- Real Arabic scientific register. You need to write technical prompts in Arabic, not translate from English in your head. Expect probing on terminology choices and on how you handle terms that have no settled Arabic equivalent.
- Calibrated safety judgment. The role exists because the line between educational and operational information is subtle. Candidates who treat every hazardous topic as unanswerable are as unhelpful as those who treat none as sensitive.
- Rubric discipline. Can you apply someone else's definitions rather than your own, and flag ambiguity instead of quietly resolving it?
No AI or ML background is required, and saying so honestly costs you nothing — training on the workflow is provided.
Logistics
Fully remote and largely asynchronous, with work delivered through Mercor's platform. Start date is immediate. Hours are flexible and typically part-time, drawn against project capacity rather than a fixed schedule; volume can rise and fall between guideline cycles. Being based in Saudi Arabia or the wider MENA region is a stated preference only — applicants elsewhere are explicitly welcome. Business-level written English is needed for guidelines, rationales, and reviewer communication.
