What the work actually involves

You write prompts in Czech — not casual chat, but deliberately constructed probes across sensitive subject areas: violence, self-harm, weapons and chemistry, extremism, fraud, medical and legal advice, and material that is legitimate in one framing and harmful in another. You then apply a written taxonomy to classify prompts and model responses, and you record why you landed where you did. A meaningful share of the job is the second half: a label without a defensible rationale is unusable to the research team reading it in English.

The Czech-specific part is the reason the role exists. Guidelines are written with English-language failure modes in mind, and someone has to notice where they break down — Czech slang and regionalisms, obfuscation through diacritic stripping or Slovak code-switching, euphemisms circulating in local forums, references to Czech law, institutions or historical flashpoints that a model trained mostly on English data will mishandle or over-refuse. Expect to flag adversarial phrasings, multi-turn escalation patterns where each message is innocuous alone, and cases where the taxonomy simply has no box that fits.

What the screen looks for

Mercor's screening is AI-led and largely conversational, with follow-ups that push on whatever you claim. Fluency is verified in practice, not taken on trust — expect to be asked to reason in Czech and then explain the same reasoning in clear written English. Beyond language, the screen is testing whether you can hold a line on sensitive material: can you construct a prompt that genuinely tests a model without producing an operational how-to, can you distinguish a harmful request from a journalistic or academic one, and can you say 'this case is ambiguous and here is why' rather than forcing a confident label.

Logistics
