What the work actually looks like

You write prompts in Finnish that probe how a model behaves around sensitive and dual-use subject matter, then apply a written taxonomy to classify what comes back. A typical session mixes authoring — inventing phrasings a real Finnish speaker might use to get something the model shouldn't give them — with labelling: reading conversations, assigning a category, and writing a short rationale that a reviewer can audit without asking you follow-up questions. Escalation patterns matter as much as single turns: a prompt that looks benign alone but sets up a later request needs to be flagged as such.

The Finnish part is not incidental. Much of the value here is catching things that survive translation into English but land very differently in Finnish — colloquial registers, euphemism, indirect phrasing, regionally specific framings that an English-first reviewer would score as harmless. Guidelines are written in English and you document in English, so you are moving between the two languages constantly rather than working in Finnish alone.

What the screen looks for

Mercor's AI-led interview will test fluency in both directions, then push on judgment. Expect scenarios with no clean answer — a request that is legitimate for one user and dangerous for another, or a response that is technically policy-compliant but unhelpfully evasive — and expect the interviewer to ask why, then ask again. Candidates who can name where a guideline runs out and say how they'd resolve the ambiguity do better than candidates who assert a confident label. Prior red-teaming, trust and safety, or content moderation experience helps but is explicitly not required.

Logistics

  • Fully remote and asynchronous; work is queue-based rather than scheduled.
  • Roughly 7 hours per week, part-time, immediate start.
  • Observed band is $48–52/hr — a reported range, not a guarantee, and effective rate depends on task type and calibration standing.
  • Basing in Finland or Western Europe is preferred but not required; applicants elsewhere are considered.
  • A bachelor's degree, completed or in progress, is stated as a requirement.
