What the work actually involves

You write prompts in Korean that probe how a model handles sensitive material — self-harm, weapons, extremism, fraud, medical and legal edges, dual-use technical questions — and then apply a written taxonomy to classify what comes back. Much of the value sits in the second half: the label alone is cheap, the recorded reasoning is what the safety team reads. Expect to work inside a guideline document that changes between batches, to hit disagreement checks against other reviewers, and to be asked why you chose one category over a neighbouring one.

A good portion of the task is specifically Korean-language: phrasing that is benign in direct translation but reads as coded, coercive, or evasive in Korean; honorific and register shifts used to soften a harmful request; regional slang, hangul–hanja play, or spacing tricks that route around filters. Cultural judgment matters where a topic is sensitive in Korea in ways an English-first rubric does not anticipate — political and historical flashpoints, defamation norms, hierarchy in workplace or school scenarios.

What the screen looks for

The platform interview is AI-led and will push on specifics. It tests whether your Korean is genuinely native or near-native in written production, not just conversation; whether your English is strong enough to write rationales a non-Korean-speaking reviewer can act on; and whether you can hold a line on dual-use material — recognising a request that is harmful in effect while staying calm and non-moralising in your write-up. Prior red-teaming, trust and safety, moderation or grading experience is a plus and worth naming concretely.

Logistics

  • Remote and asynchronous; work is claimed from a queue rather than scheduled in shifts.
  • Roughly 7 hours per week, part-time, immediate start.
  • Bachelor's degree completed or in progress is stated as a requirement.
  • Based in South Korea or the wider East Asia region is a stated preference only — applicants elsewhere are welcome.
  • Pay observed in the $48–52/hr band; rates on Mercor vary by project and are not guaranteed.
