What the work actually looks like

You install a specialized build of an AI assistant app on your own Mac and then use it the way a Korean speaker in Seoul actually would: dictating a KakaoTalk-style message, drafting a work email, asking it to summarize a PDF, telling it to apply a formula across a spreadsheet column, requesting an image. The point is naturalness — the lab wants speech that sounds like a real person talking to their computer, not a QA script read aloud. After each interaction you write down what you actually said (verbatim, disfluencies and all), then produce a cleaned-up version, rate the assistant's response, and log the whole thing in a tracking sheet with the screen or audio recording uploaded to a shared drive.

The volume of clerical work surprises people. For every minute of talking there are several minutes of transcription, rating, file naming, and sheet entry. Expect the admin half to be at least as demanding as the speaking half, and expect your rows to be checked for completeness.

What the screen looks for

  • Korean that is genuinely native to South Korea. The listing prefers raised/native — expect the conversational interview to be sensitive to register, contemporary usage, and whether your speech patterns read as domestic Korean rather than heritage or学-learned.
  • Enough English to follow written instructions. Task guidelines, rubrics, and sheet headers will be in English. You do not need to be fluent, but you need to not misread a rubric.
  • Hardware, verified. M1/M2/M3 Apple Silicon, macOS Sequoia 15.0 or newer. Intel Macs and older macOS versions are excluded outright.
  • Tolerance for structured data entry. Candidates who describe themselves as "more creative than detail-oriented" tend not to make it through.

Logistics

Remote and asynchronous, from South Korea or wherever you are, on your own schedule. Four-week duration with an immediate start; onboarding involves a 25-minute conversational interview, a Mercor Expert email setup, and a technical setup step before any paid task work begins. Pay is observed at $24/hr — Mercor projects can end early or extend depending on the lab's data needs, so treat the four weeks as a plan rather than a promise.
