What the work actually involves

You will run a specialized build of an AI assistant app on your own Mac and use it the way a real person would — dictating messages and emails, asking it to format a document, apply a spreadsheet formula, generate an image, or summarize a file. The point is natural speech in Traditional Mandarin as spoken in Taiwan, not scripted prompts. After each interaction you write down what you actually said verbatim, produce a cleaned-up transcript, rate the assistant's response, and log the whole thing in a structured tracking sheet with the recording uploaded to a shared drive.

The volume of clerical work is real and should not be underestimated. A single task might take ninety seconds to speak and several minutes to transcribe, clean, rate, and file correctly. Consistency across dozens of rows matters more than any individual brilliant prompt — labs use this data to measure whether the assistant handles Mandarin speech in a Taiwanese register, so mislabeled or half-filled rows quietly poison the set.

What the screening looks for

  • Language authenticity. Traditional characters, Taiwan vocabulary and usage, natural code-switching with English app and product names as a Taiwanese speaker would actually do it.
  • Hardware, verified. Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) and macOS Sequoia 15.0 or newer is a hard gate — the app does not run otherwise, and this is checked during technical setup.
  • English instruction comprehension. Project docs, rubrics, and the tracking sheet are in English even though your output is in Mandarin.
  • Tolerance for structured logging. Evidence you have done detailed data entry and caught your own errors without a supervisor doing it for you.

Logistics

Remote and largely async, with a stated four-week duration and immediate start. Onboarding runs through a resume and application form, a 25-minute conversational interview about your background and motivations, a Mercor Expert email, and technical setup; next steps typically arrive within a few days. Pay was observed at $24/hr — Mercor sets rates per project and hourly commitments on this kind of data-collection work often shift week to week, so treat the band as reported rather than promised.
