What the work actually looks like
Mercor is staffing this on behalf of an AI lab building a voice-driven assistant. Your day is a loop: pick or receive a task type — dictate an email, ask the assistant to reformat a document, generate an image, apply a spreadsheet formula, summarize a PDF — then perform it out loud in natural Brazilian Portuguese on a special build of the app installed on your own Mac. Afterwards you write down what you actually said (verbatim), produce a cleaned-up version of that transcript, rate how the assistant handled it, and record the whole thing in a structured tracking sheet with the screen or audio recording uploaded to a shared drive.
The hard part is not the speaking. It's the discipline afterwards: consistent transcript conventions, honest ratings that don't drift toward generosity as you tire, and complete rows in the sheet with nothing missing. Reviewers can compare your transcript against your recording, so accuracy is checkable. Expect a fair amount of self-directed quality review — nobody is standing over you between tasks.
What the screen looks for
The application is a resume upload plus a roughly 25-minute conversational AI interview on background, experience and motivation. Practically, the screen is trying to confirm three things: that your Portuguese is genuinely native to Brazil (regional vocabulary, natural phrasing, not textbook European Portuguese), that you can read and follow instructions written in English, and that you own the required hardware. The Mac requirement is a genuine gate — Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) on macOS Sequoia 15.0 or newer. Intel Macs, iPads, and borrowed machines don't work, and this is verified during technical setup.
Logistics
- Fully remote, asynchronous — you schedule your own task sessions
- Fixed four-week duration, immediate start
- Observed rate $15/hr; hours are typically flexible and project-capped rather than full-time
- Requires your own Apple Silicon Mac, a quiet enough space to speak aloud, and stable upload bandwidth for recordings
- Onboarding includes a Mercor Expert email and a technical setup step before you begin logging tasks
