The work
Most of your week is spent doing two things: judging operations work the model produced, and producing the reference version yourself. On the review side you are looking for the failure modes an experienced operator sees instantly — a forecast that ignores pipeline coverage ratios, a territory carve that leaves quota unbalanced, a deal desk recommendation that would never clear finance, numbers in a summary that do not tie to the numbers in the exhibit. On the authoring side you write instruction specs that pin down what "correct" means for a task, produce golden solutions, and design new tasks and evaluation sets hard enough to actually differentiate model versions.
The hardest part is not the operations analysis — it is making tacit judgment explicit. You will sit in calibration discussions with researchers and experts from adjacent domains, and the deliverable is written criteria someone else can apply and reach the same verdict you did. Written precision matters more here than in most operating jobs.
What the screen looks for
- Ownership, not adjacency. Four-plus years running a business, revenue, or sales ops function, with a title arc into Manager/Director/VP or above. Individual quota-carrying sales experience with no ops ownership is explicitly excluded.
- A named specialty. Quota and territory design, forecasting and revenue ops, CRM and GTM systems, pricing and deal desk, supply chain and inventory planning, analytics, or process improvement — one of these deeply, with numbers you can recall.
- Working LLM use. Not opinions about AI; specific examples of using models in your own operating work and catching them being confidently wrong.
- Location honesty. Expect a direct question about whether you live in the Bay Area today.
