What the work involves

CAD evaluation work sits between design practice and data annotation. On a given batch you might be handed a text prompt and asked to model the part yourself so there is a reference solution; or handed two model trees and asked which one a competent designer would accept; or asked to read a model's feature history and explain, in writing, why a fillet placed before a shell is a defect rather than a preference. Some tasks are about output geometry, some are about intent — whether the sketch is fully constrained, whether the datum scheme survives a dimension change, whether a drawing carries enough GD&T for a shop to make the part without calling you.

The written justification is usually the deliverable that matters most. A one-word grade tells a model nothing; a paragraph that names the failure ("underdefined sketch, so the boss migrates when the base extrude is edited") is what gets used. Expect to spend as much time typing as modelling.

Answers that stay at the level of "I'm proficient in SolidWorks" tend not to survive the follow-up questions. Portfolio evidence, a degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or industrial design, CSWP/CSWE or vendor-equivalent certification, and drafting standards knowledge (ASME Y14.5 or ISO GPS) all help but are not uniformly required.
