The work
You receive a set of prompts covering French corporate and commercial law — the kind of questions a transactional associate fields daily: share transfer mechanics under the Code de commerce, garanties d'actif et de passif, clauses d'agrément, approval thresholds in an SAS versus an SARL, information-consultation obligations, merger control and foreign investment screening triggers. Each prompt is run through two LLM platforms. You read both answers closely, decide which is stronger and why, and score each against a standardized rubric covering accuracy of legal substance, correctness of citation to French sources, completeness, and usability for a practising lawyer.
The written feedback matters as much as the score. A useful entry names the specific defect — a misstated majority requirement, a repealed article cited as current, French law described through an Anglo-American lens, advice that skips a mandatory formality — rather than recording a general impression. Volume is modest per item; the difficulty is sustaining the same standard across dozens of comparisons and resisting the pull of whichever answer is longer or more confidently written.
What the screen looks for
- Verifiable law-firm grounding in corporate/M&A or transactional work, at least two years, three or more preferred. In-house counsel qualify only if the move in-house was within the last two years and the prior experience was at a firm.
- Qualification to practise in France and genuine command of French corporate and commercial law — expect follow-ups that test whether you can state a rule and its statutory basis without hedging.
- Native or fluent French with precise written expression; feedback is read by people building the benchmark, not by clients.
- Independence: ability to apply someone else's rubric faithfully, including when your own instinct would grade differently.
