What the work involves
You will write, review, and refine the kinds of documents you produced in uniform or at an agency desk: Weekly Activity Reports, Monthly Activity Reports, SITREPs, after-action reviews, decision memos, and executive summaries. Some tasks start from a prompt and supporting documentation and ask you to draft a golden reference response — the version a model should be measured against. Other tasks are evaluation work: you read model or contributor output against a detailed rubric and score it for clarity, factual accuracy, format compliance, and adherence to reporting conventions, then write a short justification a reviewer can audit.
A second slice of the role is upstream. Because rubrics for federal staff writing don't exist off the shelf, experienced contributors are asked to help define them — what counts as an acceptable BLUF, when passive voice is appropriate, how a SITREP differs from an after-action summary in scope and tense, what a commander would strike in red pen. Expect feedback cycles as client standards evolve, and expect your reasoning to be read as carefully as your prose.
What the platform screens for
micro1 runs an AI-led interview before any project assignment. It is looking for verifiable specifics rather than general writing confidence:
- Named report types you have actually authored, at what echelon, and for whom
- Fluency with federal style conventions — BLUF structure, AR 25-50 or equivalent service guidance, Plain Writing Act expectations
- Ability to explain why a passage fails, not just that it reads poorly
- Judgment about what is unclassified and appropriate to reproduce; all work must use synthetic or sanitized content
Expect follow-up questions that push on a single claim until you either add detail or concede the limit of your experience. Conceding is fine; bluffing is what ends screens.
Logistics
Contractor engagement, remote, US-only. Work is asynchronous with task queues and stated turnaround windows rather than fixed shifts; most contributors treat it as 10–20 hours per week alongside other work, though volume fluctuates with project phase. Observed pay is $40–60/hr, set by assessed depth and task type, and is not guaranteed. No prior AI experience is expected — the reporting background is the qualification.
