What the work actually involves
You will spend most of your time reading AI-drafted immigration work product — H-1B and L-1 support letters, PERM audit responses, EB-1A/NIW petition arguments, RFE replies, I-140/I-485 strategy memos, consular processing analyses — and judging whether it would survive a partner's review, let alone an adjudicator's. That means flagging fabricated or stale citations to the INA, 8 CFR, the AFM/USCIS Policy Manual, and BIA or circuit precedent; catching reasoning that is plausible-sounding but wrong on eligibility criteria; and writing the corrected version or a rubric-anchored critique explaining precisely where the model went off. Some tasks flip the direction: you author the gold-standard memo first, and the model is scored against you.
What the screen looks for
micro1's screening is AI-led and conversational, and it pushes on specifics. Expect to be asked what visa categories you personally handled, at what volume, and in whose name the filings went out — associates who supported petitions get a different read than those who owned the strategy call. Expect follow-ups that test whether your knowledge is current: policy in this area moves quarterly, and confident answers built on 2019 guidance are easy to detect. You will also be asked to critique a short piece of model-generated immigration text on the spot. The evaluation is less about whether you find every flaw and more about whether your feedback is specific, ranked by consequence, and written so a non-lawyer annotation lead can act on it.
Logistics
- Fully remote, contractor engagement, U.S. immigration law focus
- Asynchronous task queues; most contributors commit 8–20 hours a week, some considerably more during project ramps
- Work is billed hourly against completed and reviewed tasks; the $140–400 band is what has been observed across contributors and tiers, not a guaranteed rate
- No prior AI or machine-learning experience expected — calibration to the rubric happens on the project
- Active bar licensure and conflicts clearance with your current employer are your responsibility to confirm before accepting work
