What the work involves

You will spend most of your time producing and judging text at the level of a graduate seminar or a specialist consult. Typical tasks include authoring hard questions in your subfield — innate signaling, T and B cell development, tolerance and autoimmunity, tumor immunology, vaccine immunology, immunogenetics, assay interpretation — and then writing reference answers a competent immunologist would accept. Other tasks are purely evaluative: you read two or more model responses and rank them, or you annotate a single response line by line, marking where it invents a cytokine axis, misattributes a mechanism, garbles an experimental readout, or gives confident clinical advice it should have hedged.

Accuracy matters less than the reasoning you leave behind. Reviewers and downstream training pipelines depend on your written justification, so "this is wrong" is not usable; "this conflates MHC class II presentation with cross-presentation, so the CD8 conclusion does not follow" is. Some projects add adjacent skills — reading figures from primary literature, checking flow cytometry gating logic, or evaluating code and statistics in immunological data analysis, which is why the role sits under engineering on this board.

Vague, generalist answers screen out quickly; so does polished prose with no mechanism in it.
