What the work involves

You work from prompts and supplied artifacts — operational fragments, tasking memos, raw notes — and produce the document a staff officer or action officer would actually have written. Some tasks ask for a "golden response": the version that would survive an O-6 review without redlines. Others ask you to read an AI-generated SITREP or weekly activity report and explain, line by line, where it drifted from format, invented specificity, buried the bottom line, or used terminology that no one in that branch would use.

A meaningful share of the work is rubric authoring rather than writing. You articulate what separates an acceptable AAR from a strong one, how BLUF discipline is assessed, when passive voice is appropriate in federal writing and when it's evasion, and how tone shifts between a memorandum for record and an executive update going to a flag officer. Expect written feedback plus occasional recorded verbal walkthroughs of your reasoning. Some tasks involve supporting products — decision briefs, memos, slide content, tracker spreadsheets.

What the screen looks for

Verifiable service or civilian DoD background. Three-plus years, and specifics: branch, role, what documents crossed your desk and at what echelon.
Format fluency under follow-up. You should be able to describe the structure of a SITREP or AAR from memory and explain where local practice diverged from doctrine.
Evaluation instinct. Naming a flaw is table stakes; the screen rewards candidates who rank flaws by severity and say what a fix would look like.
Judgment on unclassified boundaries. All work is unclassified and synthetic. Contributors are expected to recognize where a realistic detail becomes a real one.
