What the work involves
You are the learner, not the teacher. Each session pairs you with an experienced Spanish tutor who runs a lesson according to an assigned topic or structure — speaking drills, listening comprehension, free conversation, guided question-and-answer. Your job is to participate genuinely: attempt Spanish, ask for clarification when you don't understand, respond in real time, and stay engaged for the full 20–30 minutes. The recordings are valuable precisely because the learning is real, so there is no benefit in overperforming or pretending to more fluency than you have.
Sessions must reach at least 20 minutes to count. Long silences, drifting into English small talk, or abandoning the lesson plan reduce the usability of the recording, so the practical skill being tested is sustained conversational stamina at a level of Spanish that is still uncomfortable for you.
What the platform screens for
- Genuine learner status — at least a year of structured Spanish learning (classes, tutoring, disciplined self-study, an app-plus-practice routine), and current active study rather than a language you last touched in college.
- Native English fluency and clear verbal communication, since the English side of the interaction also lands on the recording.
- A bachelor's degree or higher, as stated by the listing.
- Reliability under scheduling — recorded one-on-one sessions with a live tutor mean a no-show wastes two calendars, and punctuality history matters more here than in async annotation work.
- Comfort on camera and microphone, with a quiet space and stable connection.
Logistics
Fully remote and scheduled — this is not async piecework. Expect roughly seven hours per week for about three weeks, which works out to a substantial number of short sessions rather than a few long blocks, so you will need repeated availability windows that line up with tutor schedules. Sessions are recorded for project purposes; if that is a problem, this is not the right quest. Pay is observed at $42/hr and is not guaranteed by Sidequest.
