What the work involves

This is contract AI-training work, not research or teaching. On a typical project you will be handed a subject area — organic chemistry mechanisms, real analysis, thermodynamics, molecular biology, electrical circuits, statistics — and asked to produce material a model cannot already handle. That usually means authoring original problems with verified single answers, writing full step-by-step solutions that expose the reasoning rather than just the result, and grading model outputs against a rubric where you must say precisely which line the reasoning broke and why. Some projects flip the direction: you are given two model responses and asked to rank them, justify the ranking in a paragraph, and flag any confident-sounding fabrication.

The volume of judgment calls is the surprising part. A model answer can reach the correct number through an invalid route, cite a real theorem under the wrong conditions, or produce a plausible chemical structure that violates valence. Reviewers who only check the final answer get filtered out fast.

What the platform screens for

micro1 runs an AI-conducted interview before any human sees your profile. Expect it to confirm your degree and field, then push into technical depth with follow-ups generated from your own answers — describe a specialty and it will ask you to work through a specific case in it. There is often a written or timed problem-solving component alongside the conversation. The screen is looking for:

  • Real subject mastery that survives two or three layers of follow-up
  • Clean written mathematics and notation, since almost all output is text
  • Willingness to mark something wrong and explain the failure concretely
  • Calibrated uncertainty — saying "I would need to check the boundary condition" beats confident hand-waving

Logistics

Fully remote and largely asynchronous. Most contributors work between 10 and 25 hours a week against project deadlines rather than fixed shifts, though some client projects request overlap with US business hours. Engagements run in waves: a project may occupy you heavily for three weeks and then pause.
