What the work involves
You will spend most of your time doing the thing you already do, but staged for evaluation. That means taking a contract scenario — a vendor MSA with an unfavorable limitation of liability, an NDA with a residuals clause, a DPA that mishandles sub-processor flow-down — and producing a redline plus the reasoning that justifies it. Alongside that, you review model output on the same scenarios: identifying missed risk, hallucinated defined terms, positions that are technically defensible but commercially naive, and language that reads plausible but would not survive counterparty scrutiny.
A second stream of work is rubric design. Rather than only marking answers wrong, you help build grading criteria that another reviewer could apply and reach the same score — what counts as a material risk miss, how to weight tone and negotiation posture, when a deviation from your preferred phrasing is still acceptable. This is where legal judgment gets translated into something an engineering team can measure, and it is the part that platform teams weigh most heavily.
What the screen looks for
- Verifiable credentials: J.D. from an ABA-accredited school, active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, and a documented three-plus years concentrated in technology transactions.
- Depth under follow-up: expect the screen to pick a single clause and push — why that carve-out, what the counterparty says next, what you concede.
- Written precision: your feedback is training data, so vague or hedged critique scores poorly.
- Calibration: whether you can separate "wrong" from "not how I'd write it."
Logistics
Fully remote, contractor engagement, part-time. Work is delivered asynchronously against task queues, so there are no fixed hours, though most contributors report needing contiguous blocks of two to three hours to complete a full redline-plus-rationale task well. Volume fluctuates with project cycles; treat this as supplementary rather than replacement income. Pay is stated as observed on the platform at $100–200/hr and is not guaranteed. Conflicts screening and confidentiality terms apply — check them against your current firm or in-house obligations before applying.
