What the work involves
This is not annotation or ranking chat responses. You produce real professional output — the pipeline spec, the DAG, the territory plan, the QBR deck, the target operating model diagnostic — in the form and to the standard you'd produce it for a paying employer or client. The three domains work alongside each other, so a consultant may be structuring and documenting work a data engineer has just delivered, or a sales lead may be building an account strategy that the consulting cohort then pressure-tests. Everything is captured with enough surrounding context that a model can be graded against it: intermediate steps, the reasoning behind a choice, what you rejected and why. Some seats lean hands-on delivery, others lean documentation and structuring of someone else's delivery; you may be asked to do both across the four weeks.
What the platform screens for
Mercor runs a resume and work-history screen followed by a short domain assessment, and the assessment is where most candidates are decided. It probes whether you have actually owned the thing on your CV: for data engineers, whether you've run pipelines in production and handled the failures, not just built them in a sandbox; for sales, whether you've carried a number full-cycle rather than supported someone who did; for consulting, whether you've led or substantially authored an engagement workstream. Expect follow-ups that go one layer deeper than the first answer. Recency matters — hands-on within the last couple of years reads far better than a decade-old stint followed by management.
Logistics
- Dates: 14 September to 10 October 2026, full-time at 40 hours per week
- Rhythm: remote but collaborative, on UK business hours — this is not a fully async, work-whenever engagement
- Exclusivity: you should not be carrying another commitment with significant hours during the window; small side projects can be discussed
- Location: you must be based in the UK with the right to work there. This is a hard gate, not a preference.
The pay band of $140–200/hr is what has been observed for this listing and typically tracks seniority and domain; it is not a guaranteed rate, and placement depends on the assessment as well as the fit between your background and the seats the lab still needs filled.
