The work

You record scripted material — conversational turns, narration, instructional copy, and support-style dialogue — following a detailed spec covering microphone distance, room noise floor, file format, and naming. Sessions typically ask for multiple takes of the same line with controlled variation: shift the emotion, move the emphasis, change the pacing, hold the accent steady. Consistency across days matters more than any single brilliant read, because the model learns your voice as a stable target and drifts in timbre or energy show up as artifacts in synthesis.

The clone clause is the part to read twice. The client intends to build a CX AI agent on your voice, meaning a synthetic version of you will speak lines you never recorded. Mercor states this up front so applicants can decline early; if the idea of your voice answering support calls indefinitely gives you pause, this is not the right quest.

What the screen looks for

  • Verifiable voice work history — dubbing, narration, podcasting, broadcast, IVR, audiobooks. Named projects and client types carry more weight than adjectives.
  • A real signal chain. Expect questions about your microphone, interface, treatment, and typical noise floor. "Quiet room" is not an answer; dBFS figures and gear names are.
  • Native American English. Regional accent is fine; the requirement is native and US-based.
  • Range under instruction. Can you deliver the same line calm, then energetic, then corporate-neutral, without the accent slipping?
  • Informed consent on cloning. Screens usually confirm you understand and accept it.

Logistics

Fully remote and asynchronous — you receive script batches and deliver files on a turnaround window rather than joining live sessions. Budget 5–10 hours weekly across the project, including retakes when audio QC flags a file. $50/hr is the observed band for this listing, not a guarantee; rates and hour counts move with project phase and batch volume. Self-editing to spec (trimming, level normalization) is often expected, so familiarity with Audition, Reaper, or Audacity saves you time.
