What the work involves

AI models are increasingly asked to produce, edit, and parse real office documents rather than plain text. This quest supports that work. On a typical shift you might be handed a model-generated .docx and asked whether the heading hierarchy, numbered lists, cross-references, and table structure survived intact; or given a scanned PDF and the model's extraction of it, and asked to grade the extraction against ground truth. Other tasks lean generative: you write the reference document — a formatted contract, invoice, multi-column report, or fillable form — that the model will be measured against.

Common task types include:

  • Rating document outputs on layout fidelity, style consistency, and whether the file actually opens cleanly
  • Correcting broken structures: merged cells, orphaned list numbering, mangled footnotes, lost styles, corrupted tracked changes
  • Grading PDF-to-text and PDF-to-table extraction, including multi-column and scanned-page cases
  • Writing detailed rationales that explain why an output fails, in terms an engineer can act on
  • Occasionally authoring prompts and reference files for new evaluation sets

What the platform screens for

micro1 runs an AI-led interview. Expect it to probe past surface familiarity: not "do you use Word" but whether you can explain styles versus direct formatting, what breaks when a .docx round-trips through a converter, how tagged PDFs differ from flat ones, and where OCR reliably fails. Follow-up questions get more specific the more you claim. Written English matters — rationales are a deliverable, not a formality. Prior work as a legal secretary, document specialist, technical writer, publishing production editor, paralegal, or in document automation tends to screen well.

Logistics

Fully remote, asynchronous, contractor basis. Work is drawn from a queue rather than scheduled, so hours are flexible, but throughput expectations are real and quality is sampled continuously. Most contributors commit 10–25 hours per week; volume fluctuates with project cycles. You'll need a machine with a genuine Microsoft Word install (not only a web editor) and a reliable PDF tool.
